The Norwegian University College of Health
The Norwegian University College of Health (Helsehøyskolen) was founded in 1992, and in 1996 received its first accredited course in the medical sciences. Over the years, the college has grown and further courses have been accredited. We currently have more than 400 students and offer three different courses in basic medicine, in addition to a Bachelors degree in Nutritional Science. All of our courses are either classroom based or web-based, using our advanced internet based education system, Qybele.
All courses qualify for support from the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund.
University Foundation Course in Medicine (medisin grunnfag)
Our basic university course in medicine provides students with a thorough, broad-based introduction to anatomy, physiology, pathology and community medicine. The course consists of six modules, each worth 10 ECTS credits.
Around 580 hours of organised teaching is provided during the entire course. In addition, the course includes group work, seminars, private study and an exam for each module.
This Foundation Course in Medicine has been recognised by the Norwegian Quality Assurance Authority (NOKUT) and confers 60 ECTS credits equivalent to one full academic year at the tertiary level.
Bachelor Degree in Nutrition Science
Our Bachelors degree in Nutritional Science comprises the one year Foundation Course in Medicine and thereafter two years of nutritional science. In nutritional science, students will acquire thorough knowledge about general nutrition and health, and how to prevent and treat lifestyle related diseases.
The degree has been recognised by the Norwegian authorities and confers 180 ECTS credit points, equivalent to three full academic years at the tertiary level.
Admission to the course & the requirements
Since all of our courses are accredited as higher, tertiary education, the College operates with the same general entry requirements as all other Norwegian institutions of higher education.
